General FAQs

  1. What is your deadline for receiving applications?  December 1.
  2. What is your timeline for conducting interviews? We start interviewing in late October and end in late January.
  3. How can I apply to your program?  Applications should be submitted through ERAS. Please be sure to follow the ERAS application guidelines. 
  4. Do you offer a transitional year (PGY-1) with your program  Yes, this Neurology Residency program is categorical; therefore it does include the PGY-1 year.
  5. How many positions are you offering through the match this year?  Up to 8 PGY-1 Neurology Residency positions per year
  6. Do you have a cut-off for USMLE scores to consider the application?  Generally, we require residency applicants to submit USMLE scores on both Step One and Step Two, but we understand that due COVID-19, many Step Two scores will not be available.  The important thing to note is that the Selection Committee does look at the entire application and does not base its decisions on USMLE /COMLEX scores.
  7. Does the program accept scores from multiple attempts on USMLE All sets of scores will be considered?  All sets of scores will be considered.While the number of attempts may have an effect on the likelihood of being invited for an interview, it is not in itself a disqualifying factor.
  8. Does your program accept international medical graduates?  Yes it does
  9. What types of visas do you sponsor?  Our institution sponsor J-1 visas
  10. Is there a cut-off for time from medical school graduation to be considered for an interview?  We typically interview candidates who have graduated from medical school within the past 5 years. Rare exceptions are made in case the candidate has done clinical work in neurology for a substantial period since graduation.
  11. How many call days are residents required to take each month?  As of July 1, 2020, we have implemented a night float system.The Night Float rotation was created in order to help ensure that on-service residents are adequately rested during the regular work day by relieving them of overnight call duties.
  12. Do you require or strongly encourage research?  Research is not required; however, research opportunities are available. Some of our residents have elected to become involved in research electives and we strongly support this.
  13. Do you require any clinical experience?  No, we do not. However, U.S. clinical experience is preferred for IMG applicants.
  14. What PGY-3 and PGY-4 electives are offered?  Behavioral Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy & EEG, Geriatric Neurology, Headache & Facial Pain Movement Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuroimaging, Neuromuscular Disease & EMG, Neuro-oncology, Neuro-ophthalmology/Neuro-Otology, Neuropathology, Neurorehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Pain Medicine, Sleep Medicine, Stroke & Vascular Neurology
  15. Does your program recommend any specific fourth year electives? Neurology electives or sub-internships are recommended electives, but we understand this due to COVID-19, many rotation were not able to be completed.
